CAPA and Festival Latino Receive Experience Columbus EXPY Award

March 10th, 2017 by CAPASMM

Every year, Experience Columbus recognizes select Columbus organizations for their outstanding contributions to the Greater Columbus visitor experience with the EXPY Awards. EXPY Award winners demonstrate the best Columbus has to offer, and serve as role models for creativity and collaboration in the community.

On March 14, we are thrilled that CAPA will receive an EXPY Award for its work on Festival Latino! CAPA took on production of Festival Latino in 2009, when the event was in jeopardy due to budget cuts. Celebrating its 20th anniversary in 2016, Festival Latino is now Ohio’s largest Hispanic celebration, attracting more than 125,000 visitors each year who enjoy Latin food, music, dancing, and more!

Festival Latino 2017 is August 12 &13 at Geno Park.

Festival Latino – August 9 and 10 in Bicentennial Park downtown

August 5th, 2014 by admin

The spirit of Latin culture will once again heat up Columbus with vibrant rhythms, spicy cuisine, and fun for all ages as Festival Latino presented by Honda returns Saturday and Sunday, August 9 and 10, to Bicentennial Park downtown.
Festival Latino 2014 will include music provided by DJ Cale, Festival host B. A-Star, Latin visual artists, children’s activities, fantastic food, and world-class Latin musical artists including bachata master Joe Veras on Saturday, and the 14-piece merengue orchestra Los Hermanos Rosario on Sunday.
Saturday’s headliner, Joe Veras, is a deeply emotional and inspiring bachata singer. Born in the Dominican Republic, Joe adopted the nation’s romantic musical style and has seen great success. In 1993, he received his second Casandra award for Bachatero of the Year. Joe also received the Tropical Airplay Track of the Year at the 2004 Billboard Latin Music Awards for his single “Intentalo Tu.” His embrace of the traditional bachata style has made his album Carta de Verano one of the highest selling bachata albums in Latin America. Joe Veras performs Saturday, August 9, at 6:30 pm in Bicentennial Park.

Sunday’s headliner, Los Hermanos Rosario, is a wildly successful 14-piece merengue orchestra founded by the Rosario brothers in 1978. The brothers’ interpretation of the Dominican merengue first caught the attention of the public in 1980 with the release of their single, “Maria Guayando.” In 1993, the brothers struck gold with the release of the album Los Mundialmente Sabrosos. The single “Amor, Amor” hit #1 on the tropical music charts in the US, Puerto Rico, the Dominican Republic, Venezuela, and Columbia. Over the course of their 35-year career, Los Hermanos Rosario has received a number of Platinum, Double Platinum, and Gold album awards and has toured the US and Europe extensively. Los Hermanos Rosario performs Sunday, August 10, at 6:30 pm in Bicentennial Park.

With a wide variety of food, art, shopping, and children’s activities, Festival Latino has something for everyone. Experience the sights, sounds, and tastes of many Latin cultures as they come together to celebrate at Festival Latino 2014!
