Nominate a film for the 2011 CAPA Summer Movie Series!

By Rich Corsi, Director of Programming

The selection process for films for the 2011 CAPA Summer Movie Series has begun! Summer may seem a long way off, but not for us when it comes to the Summer Movie Series. It’s a long process with lots of moving parts, but the dates have been booked and now we start piecing together titles.

However, before we start, we need help from you. We are always talking to patrons, ushers, friends, and family members to find out what movies folks would like to see. This year, we’re taking that one step further. CAPA is happy to announce that for the first time in Summer Movie Series history, we will show a “Fan Favorite Film” in the 2011 series. This will be a film suggested by a Summer Movie Series fan and voted upon by other fans. Wouldn’t it be great to take your friends and family to a movie at the magnificent Ohio Theatre this summer knowing you had a part in selecting that movie?

We hope you’re as excited as we are to add our first ever “Fan Favorite Film” to the 2011 season!

Here’s how you can help select the 2011 “Fan Favorite Film:”

1) Nominate your “Fan Favorite” in the first round of nominations!* On the nomination form, be sure to let us know why you want to see the film at the Summer Movie Series this year!

2) The nomination period will close Friday, January 7, 2011 Friday, January 14, 2011! From here, we’ll tabulate which films were the most popular, and put out a final vote to you – the fans – on the top five nominees. The top voted upon film will be 2011 CAPA Summer Movie Series “Fan Favorite Film!”

*Editors’ Note: The first round of nominations have closed for the 2011 Summer Movie Series Fan Favorite! Check the CAPA.com blog soon to find out which of your films made it to the final round of voting!

  1. Matthew Bush says:

I love The CAPA Summer Movie Series!

  2. Kevin Cecil says:

I agree with Mr. Bush! I do have one request for the next season though: please let us know which movies CAPA is playing on 35mm and which are projected DVDs. A few of my friends stopped going because they assumed all movies were DVDs, though I kept going and saw many wonderful film prints. I don’t think most people care, but those who do care a lot. Many cinephiles will drive long distances to view rarely screened prints. Thanks, the summer movie series is one of my favorite things about columbus!

  3. Rich Corsi says:

Hey Guys! Just wanted to give you a head’s up that we will be publishing in our brochure this year if the movies will be 35MM or DVD presentations.

  4. marcella says:

would love to see King Kong (the original)

  5. Kirk says:

There is one thing I would love to see happen, that would be to open the series up to foreign silent films. Generally the movies shown are not just well grossing movies, but movies that sometimes have changed the face of movies. With that i would love to see “Battleship Potemkin” which change the way films were made. Using multiple points of view, and different angles. It is a classic that affected movies the world over.

  6. James Allen says:

My vote is for Gone With The Wind or Star Wars. Not because they’re my two favorite films of all time, but because they’re both very big-screen movies. It would be super epic.

  7. Heather says:

I would like to vote for A Streetcar Named Desire. Not only is it my favorite movie, but seeing beautiful Brando on the big screen would be fantastic.

  8. Holly says:

Like the Summer Movie Series, my husband and I are celebrating our 40th anniversary this year, too. The anniversary of our first date, that is! As high school sweethearts, college students, and then as young newlyweds, we often attended movies at The Ohio Theater. We took our son to many, many movies there as he was growing up. We still look forward to the series every summer.
    Thanks for some wonderful memories.
See you this summer at the beautiful Ohio Theater!

  9. Lisa says:

Singin’ in the Rain, please. I would love to see it on the big screen!

  10. Lisa says:

OH! Bicycle Thief (or Thieves) not sure of the title, just saw a small amount of the film on tv and it looked great!

  11. Bird says:

Let’s vote for Heathers. A great comedy that would be perfect for one of the late night showings that would draw in a diverse crowd!

  12. Ned Thomas says:

Camelot. Great closs ups and wonderful music.

  13. Markie Mark says:

    I agree with the Bird…. Let’s vote for Heather’s. Let’s do it……………..

  14. Victor O says:

‘Metropolis’, the newly restored version with the original music score and lost footage.
