After humble beginnings as a five-hour pilot project by the City of Columbus in 1996, Festival Latino has become the largest Latin event in Ohio, offering a FREE, family-friendly event that celebrates family and community with two days of children’s activities, music, food, fashion, art, and dance from the heart of Latin America. Produced by CAPA (Columbus Association for the Performing Arts), this year’s Festival on August 10 and 11, will offer an increased number of children’s activities, food vendors, and merchandise vendors, as well the addition of a second stage that will be programmed with family entertainment and Latin dance.
Festival Latino also features a dance plaza where Ohio-based, Latin dance groups perform and/or teach the dances of Latin America; a children’s area that offers a wide variety of activities for families, including crafts, bilingual story times, drum circles, and COSI’s Science Spot and live liquid oxygen show; a visual artists showcase displaying the works of Ohio-based, Latin artists; and a live runway fashion show demonstrating the influence of Latin culture on the evolution of fashion. And what would be a festival without food? Festival Latino offers a wide selection of Latin cuisine from vendors representing the many different countries of Latin America.
The mission of Festival Latino is to provide the community with an opportunity to experience traditional and contemporary Latin American culture through the presentation of the performing and visual arts, educational workshops, and authentic cuisine. What that means for festival-goers is a weekend full of fantastic food, phenomenal entertainment, and tons of interactive family fun, so please join us for Festival Latino 2013 on August 10 and 11!
