The Friendly Faces of the Theatres: Become a CAPA Volunteer and become a vital partner to the arts
More than 1000 volunteers help CAPA fulfill its mission each year. There are plenty of opportunities for you to become part of the excitement. If you would like further information, please contact us or click here for the volunteer application.
Our volunteers play a very important role in our theatres. Your commitment to our theatres and our community are vital to our success, as well as insuring that our guests enjoy a pleasant experience while visiting our theatres.

Volunteer Positions
Ushers
Must arrive 90 minutes prior to show time. Duties include: Ticket Takers, Door Directors, Aisle Captains, and Patron Seating. Training sessions will help you become familiar with the theatres, so that you can read a ticket clearly and assist our guests to their seats, restrooms, or exits throughout the hall. Most ushers are asked to stand for a two-hour period and move freely up and down stairways. There are also a limited number of positions available for each performance for people who have mobility challenges, and we welcome all willing volunteers. You will be asked to work with the House Manager, Head Ushers, and other CAPA volunteers and assist our guests with any questions or problems they may have.

Concessions Volunteers
Must arrive at their work station 30 minutes prior to Showtime and again at the start of intermission to assist the staff bartender with concession duties.

Office Assistant
Working in any of the CAPA offices doing data entry, mass mailings, answering phones, copying and other office duties.

For more information about CAPA usher opportunities, call Janet Rife at (614) 719-6730. Or send an e-mail to volunteer@capa.com.

What do I need to do?
All volunteers must complete an orientation and two training sessions (three for concessions) and be willing to work at any of our theatres at least once or twice a month as needed for all types of shows – from Children’s Theatre and rock concerts to Broadway, opera, symphony, and dance.

Whatever capacity you are able to serve is a great benefit to CAPA. Please fill out the volunteer application and mail it back. You will be notified when the dates are set for the orientation and training sessions. If you have any questions, please call (614) 719-6738 and ask for the Volunteer Coordinator.

Some CAPA volunteers have been with us for over 20 years and are experts in teaching others how to have fun and how to treat our guests. So if you’re ready to meet new people, make new friends, and see first-class entertainment, then become a CAPA volunteer today!

The thousands of people who visit the Ohio and Palace Theatres each year receive the answers to these and many other questions on tours led by CAPA Colleagues. In addition to serving as tour docents and beautifying the Ohio Theatre by maintaining boulevard plantings on State Street, this enthusiastic women's support group manages and staffs the Theatre Shop, a specialty gift shop run in cooperation with the Women's Guild of OperaColumbus. The CAPA Colleagues' monthly meetings include programs featuring speakers from the Columbus arts and cultural community. For more information, call Colleagues President Carolyn E.
