Community Gallery   The CAPA Community Gallery evolved during the 2001-2002 season as a means of providing local schools with the opportunity to showcase their students’ artwork in a public setting. This season the Gallery will again feature visual art displays created by some of New Haven's younger artists and Community Organizations.

Schedule of exhibits for this season
"Rumberas in the Garden"
A collection of paintings by Miguel Trelles
presented by Arte Inc. in partnership with the Shubert Theater Friday, May 6, 2005

The Shubert Theater is delighted to be partnering with New Haven-based Arte Inc. on a new exhibit entitled "Rumberas in the Garden." The month long exhibit will feature work by Miquel Trelles, a talented and gifted artist whose paintings have been exhibited around the world. This exhibit is in conjunction with the Shubert's presentation of Ballet Hispanico.

"Rumberas in the Garden" is a series of paintings paying homage to the great divas of Mexican Cinema of the 1950s. Trelles pursues his interest in Chinese landscapes by placing well known Cuban, Puerto Rican and Mexican "divas" in Chinese garden settings.

The exhibit will open on Friday, May 6 at 6pm with a catered reception prior to the performance of Ballet Hispanico. Exhibit packages - including reception, exhibit and orchestra seats for the performance of Ballet Hispanico - are available through Arte, Inc at 203-469-4536.

Arte, Inc. is a not-for-profit organization dedicated to promoting Latino art & culture.

CT Photographers Turn Spotlight onto Adoption

November 3 28, 2004

Finding permanent homes for children in Connecticut took the spotlight at the CAPA Community Gallery at The Shubert Theater in an exhibit entitled Heart Gallery 2004. More than 30 photographers from throughout the state teamed up with adoptable children in the care of the Department of Children and Families to create a portrait exhibit and to raise awareness of the need for permanent families for these and many other children.

Heart Gallery 2004 exhibited 34 unique portraits, each capturing the personality and spirit of these remarkable children. The event was a collaborative effort between DCF; Northeast, the Sunday magazine of The Hartford Courant; the CT Association of Foster and Adoptive Parents; the American Academy of Pediatrics, CT Chapter; The Shubert Theater and co-founders of the project/photographers Christine Breslin and Sandy Hale.

In 2003, Heart Gallery was held at Real Art Ways in Hartford and featured 40 children of which 19 had found potential families.
