On Golden Wings Community Day

In October 2022, as part of our Social Justice Series, we had a weeklong engagement with Greatest Stories Never Told and their production of On Golden Wings.

On Golden Wings, an interactive living history play with music shares the untold story of James Herman Banning and Thomas Cox Allen, the first African Americans to fly across the United States.

We wanted to share this story with strong central Ohio ties with our community because it is one that we knew would inspire. First, we travelled North to Worthington Christian Village for a performance for their senior residents. Then, we stopped by the South Side and performed at the Reeb Center for an audience that included youth from The Boys and Girls Club of Central Ohio. Next, we went out to West High School where a group of students rehearsed and performed the musical number alongside the cast during a performance for the entire school.

Finally, we made our way to the Lincoln Theatre for a community day which included a pre-show paper airplane flying contest complete with prizes, a performance of the show, and a talkback with the cast.

Thanks to the incredible support of our donors and sponsors we were thrilled to be able to offer all these events at no cost.
