Another Thin Man (1939)

The third installment of the popular “Thin Man” series, Another Thin Man finds Nick (William Powell) and Nora (Myrna Loy) Charles, along with the ever-faithful Asta and newest family member, Nicky Jr., on the case once more. They are called to the country estate of Colonel MacFay (C. Aubrey Smith), who fears that former associate Phil Church (Sheldon Leonard) is trying to kill him. MacFay is indeed murdered shortly after their arrival, but it may not be as simple a case as it seems, with even more suspects showing up with multiple attempts to stop Nick’s investigation, mostly by killing him. As Nick and Nora work to put all the pieces together, they are surprised by an impromptu birthday party for their son thrown by former convicts from Nick’s past. The Charles family is faced with perhaps their biggest challenge yet—solving a murder while also playing the perfect hosts.
