About the film: Sissy Spacek transforms into Loretta Lynn, the “Queen of Country Music” in Coal Miner’s Daughter, a biopic that follows Lynn from an impoverished child bride to a Grand Ole Opry superstar. Despite objections from her parents, Loretta Lynn marries Doolittle Lynn (Tommy Lee Jones) at only 13 years old after a whirlwind romance with the recently discharged soldier. As they struggle through the early stages of marriage, Doolittle gifts her with a guitar and they start trying to promote her singing career. After the unexpected death of her father, Loretta renews her commitment to becoming a singer and eventually gets an opportunity to play the Grand Ole Opry, as well as meeting her idol Patsy Cline. She and Patsy are soon fast friends, giving Loretta support as her marriage continues to be a rocky road. After Patsy’s death, Loretta continues a grueling schedule until she eventually breaks down on stage and leaves the spotlight.
