SERIES PREMIERE!

This event is FREE to attend as part of CAPA’s partnership with Ohio Goes to the Movies! OGTTM is a celebration of movies that showcase Ohioans in front of, and behind the camera (actors, directors, writers, composers) as well as Ohio locations and topics, all as part of Ohio’s statewide celebration of America’s 250th anniversary.

Lee Daniels’ The Butler is based on the book by Columbus native Wil Haygood. Haygood will be present on June 19 to introduce the film and hold a pre-show opportunity with attendees.

This screening is free of charge, and no ticket is required to attend.

About the film: Inspired by the life of Eugene Allen, the White House butler who served eight presidents, Lee Daniels’ The Butler explores American history and racial tensions through a man caught between worlds. Forest Whitaker is Cecil Gaines, a son of black sharecroppers who left his tragic past behind for a successful career serving as a hotel valet in Washington DC. He impresses a White House staffer for Eisenhower, who hires him to join the White House as an under butler. As he balances professional discretion in the face of political racism during the civil rights movement with increasing tensions with his wife and son, who is fighting with the Black Panthers, Cecil watches America’s turbulent history unfold over his 30-year career.

Cast: Forest Whitaker, Oprah Winfrey, John Cusack

RATED PG-13
