“Come From Away,” with music and lyrics by Irene Sankoff and David Hein, is an acclaimed musical based on the remarkable true story of Gander, Newfoundland, a small community that welcomed thousands of stranded air travelers following the events of September 11th, 2001. When 38 planes carrying approximately 7,000 passengers from around the world were diverted to Gander, the town’s population nearly doubled overnight. Despite cultural differences and language barriers, the people of Gander opened their homes and hearts, offering food, music, friendship, and a powerful reminder of our shared humanity.
Our production of “Come From Away” commemorates the 25th anniversary of September 11th while celebrating the extraordinary kindness and generosity that emerged in its aftermath. Through Sankoff and Hein’s moving score and an ensemble-driven story that brings dozens of characters to life, we invite our audiences to reflect on what can happen when people choose compassion, community, and connection — even in the most unexpected circumstances.
