Quiet romance novelist Joan Wilder (Kathleen Turner) unwillingly finds herself in her own adventure plot when her sister is kidnapped in Colombia and Joan is instructed to bring a treasure map she received as ransom. Completely unprepared for the danger ahead, Joan is lost and pursued by Zolo (Manuel Ojeda), a corrupt officer, within hours of her arrival. When she is rescued by Jack Colton (Michael Douglas), they decide to find the treasure themselves before exchanging the map. Pursued by Zolo and his army and Ralph (Danny DeVito), one of the men holding Joan’s sister, they fight through the rain forest to discover el Corazon, a priceless emerald. Rescuing her sister isn’t the only thing on Joan’s mind as she finds herself falling for her protector, even while questioning his motives.
