Shall We Dance (1937)

Ginger Rogers and Fred Astaire dance their way to love in their seventh movie together. Pete “Petrov” Peters is a ballet dancer who falls for Linda Keene, a singer who has tired of both show business and the string of men vying for her attention that comes with the fame. Peters books passage on the same transatlantic ship as Keene in an attempt to win her affection over time. When the society rumor mill spins a tale of secret marriage, they have to contend with the complications, including her actual fiancée and Peters’ jilted admirer Lady Tarrington (Kerri Gallian), who originally started the rumor. With songbook standards like “Let’s Call the Whole Thing Off” and “They Can’t Take that Away from Me” by the Gershwins, how can they answer anything but yes to the titular question, Shall We Dance?
