MEL BROOKS’ 100TH BIRTHDAY!
Legendary director Mel Brooks celebrates his 100th birthday this year, and the party is going all the way to space! Brooks’ beloved parody of Star Wars, Spaceballs pits mercenary Lone Star (Bill Pullman) and his half dog Barf (John Candy) against Dark Helmet (Rick Moranis) and his army of Spaceballs. Under the direction of President Skroob (Brooks), Dark Helmet is pursuing Princess Vespa (Daphne Zungia) of the planet Druidia to force her father to allow Skroob access to his planet’s air. With Brooks’ trademark meta jokes and fourth wall breaks, Spaceballs is a ridiculous galaxy romp aboard the Eagle 5 that George Lucas loved so much. Lucas’ special effects company worked on the movie, even inserting a Millennium Falcon cameo.
