Bergman is Constance Petersen, a brilliant psychiatrist trying to unravel the mystery of her asylum’s new head, Dr. Anthony Edwardes (Peck). As the two are falling in love, Edwards begins to behave erratically, and as it becomes clear that he is not actually the man he claims to be, Petersen is determined to learn his real identity and what trauma caused him to lose his memory, even if it means uncovering a murder.
