The Spiral Staircase (1946)

This classic “dark and stormy night” thriller pits Helen, a mute nurse for an ailing Mrs. Warren, against a serial killer who targets young women with some sort of physical condition. After one of these murders happens at the inn where Helen is watching a movie, she flees back to the Warren mansion where Mrs. Warren, another nurse, and Warren’s two sons are preparing to wait out a brewing thunderstorm. What Helen doesn’t realize is the killer is also there, waiting for the opportunity to strike once more.
