Sex Tips for Straight Women from a Gay Man Plays the Lincoln Theatre March 1-4

Posted: January 18, 2018

Based on the international best-selling book of the same title, this romantic comedy takes the audience on a hilarious and wild ride where no topic is taboo and the insider “tips” come straight from the source—a gay man. Set at a local university auditorium, shy and studious Robyn is the moderator of the English department’s monthly “meet the authors” event. This month’s featured author is Dan Anderson of Sex Tips for Straight Women from a Gay Man, but with the help of hunky stage assistant Stefan, Dan turns the event into a highly theatrical, audience interactive, sex tip seminar.

CAPA presents Sex Tips for Straight Women from a Gay Man at the Lincoln Theatre (769 E. Long St.) on Thursday, March 1, at 7:30pm; Friday, March 2, at 8pm; Saturday, March 3, at 5pm and 8pm; and Sunday, March 4, at 2pm. Tickets are $25-$40 at the CAPA Ticket Center (39 E. State St.), all Ticketmaster outlets, and www.ticketmaster.com. To purchase tickets by phone, please call (614) 469-0939 or (800) 745-3000.

The production is based on the book Sex Tips for Straight Women from a Gay Man written by Dan Anderson and Maggie Berman. First published in 1997, the book championed the straight girl/gay guy friendship in mainstream pop culture and instantly became a national best seller. The book was praised by the New York Daily News for “offering witty—and yes, explicit— descriptions of all manner of how-to’s;” by The New York Post as "straightforward and saucy . . . a play-by-play account of how to make the most of every moment;" and by Salon.com as “a cannily entertaining romp through the nuts and bolts of sex from the male perspective.” Now a cult classic, the book has also been published in Germany, Japan, Taiwan, Brazil, the Netherlands, Australia, England, and France.

Directed by Tim Drucker, Sex Tips is now in its second smash year Off-Broadway in New York City, where it began performances on January 22, 2014, and opened on February 9, 2014. The play has received the same adulation from the media with TheaterMania touting “Sex Tips is one of the best date-night shows you'll see this year. Breathlessly entertaining! Uproariously funny! Hysterically titillating!” and Michael Musto for OUT Magazine giving the show, “Two wet thumbs up!” Broadway World calls the show “a night of fun and exhausting laughter that makes you feel good in all the wrong places,” and the academics from Columbia Spectator call it “hysterical and better than sex!”

Presented by Matt Murphy and Shawn Nightingale, Sex Tips for Straight Women from a Gay Man has scenic design by Luke Cantarella, costume design by Tilly Grimes, lighting design by Brian Tovar, and video and sound design by Randy Blair.
